One Detailers Opinion -Vol 2

I have some thoughts regarding the detailing industry’s long standing battle to bring detailers and car care professionals together as one united voice and why this has been such a difficult endeavor.

Lets look back at the various attempts over the years to establish viable associations, from the late 80’s and 90’s to present day and how little detailers today know about origins of the detailing industry and  the players who have shaped the thinking and charted the course our industry.

Here is a bit of history regarding the first attempts at establishing an association.  First a little advertised fact; before the PDA there was an existing 200 member association in California headed by two gentlemen.

Detailers, raise your prices

Author: By: Jonathan Taylor

With gas prices soaring through the roof, most small businesses are faced with the dilemma of having to raise their prices. I’ve talked with business owners who just haven’t faced up to this reality yet. They’re afraid that they’ll lose business to their competitors.

My answer to this is simple. First, if you offer exceptional service then you really have nothing to worry about. Most customers will stick with you even if your prices are a little more than the guy down the street. With that said however, let me offer some advice that will help to offset the price dilemma.

Automated Car Washes Are Depreciating The Value Of Vehicles

The Brushes And Cloths Used In Automatic Car Washes Cause Damage To Vehicles By Stripping The Wax Protectant And Dulling The Paint Finish

BOSTON, MA - Automatic car washes rely on spinning nylon bristle brushes and/or clothes to scrub
the dirt off the exterior surface of the automobile. Because friction is used as the primary method
of cleaning, very little soap is used and many times the water they use is not particularly clean.

Don't be neurotic. Be Efficient! ~ Is Your Business Running At Peak Efficency?

EFFICENCY
An efficient person accomplishes very much in a short amount of time with a minimum of wasted effort.

Efficient: 1. Having a direct effect; causative. 2a. Acting or producing effectively with a minimum of waste, expense, or unnecessary effort. B. Exhibiting a high ratio of output to input. (Latin efficere, to EFFECT)
--American Heritage Dictionary

Defining the word, unfortunately, won’t teach you how to be efficient. Furious activity alone, for example, doesn’t equal efficiency. The office worker stirring up a blizzard of flying paper at his desk may be producing nothing but confetti.

THE KEY TO EFFICIENCY IS CONTROL.
